The Waiting Game
I sometimes hate waiting for certain things.
Waiting in traffic. Waiting for the stop light to turn green. Waiting for the food to come out at a restaurant when I’m hungry. Waiting to open Christmas presents until it’s actually Christmas Day!
Waiting for a certain movie to come out. (looking at you Avengers: Endgame!) Plus, it doesn’t help that we live in an instant gratification type of culture. And yet life is full of wait and see moments..
Maybe there’s a special event or a certain season of your life that you are looking forward to.
Maybe it’s graduating from a particular school.
Maybe its finally marrying the love of your life.
Or it’s seeing the beautiful sparkle in the eyes of your newborn baby.
Maybe you are desperately waiting to land your dream job.
Or maybe you are hoping for a certain season of your life to end. It could be due to the pain from a breakup or the loss of a loved one..
Regardless of where you find yourself, I think everyone can relate to this on some level. We all want to be in control and waiting makes us realize that we actually aren’t. But as I’m waiting on some things in my life to happen, I’m slowly realizing a secret to life…
There is value in learning to be patient.
While it is true that “patience is a virtue,” I also believe that patience is a blessing in disguise.
Why?
Because the pain of waiting leads to patience, patience leads to character and character leads to hope. And hope is the thing that sustains us when we want to give up or quit.
So whether you are excitedly waiting for something to happen, have barely any hope left or you are waiting for a tough time to end, allow me to be the person to encourage you.
Keep your head/hopes up! Don’t lose your hope even if what you are waiting for takes awhile to happen. You’ll be glad that you hung in there when everything in you said to quit.
Until next time,
Travis
